Here at Southern Foundations & Pilings ltd we specialist in Traditional underpinning,’ the mass concrete underpinning has been used for over 100 years in age, and the method has not changed. Traditional underpinning method strengthens an existing structure’s foundation by digging box like squares by hand underneath your property and pouring concrete in a strategic order. The end result is a foundation much stronger built underneath your current foundation. Traditional underpinning method is applied when the current foundation is at a shallow depth but works well up to 15 meters deep. This method has not changed since its inception with its use of utilitarian tools such as shovels and post hole diggers. large machinery is not used in this method due to the small size of the boxes being removed from under your current footings. There are many professionals using this type underpinning, including the simplicity of the engineering, the low cost of labor, and the continuity of the structure’s use during construction.
This method of underpinning requires the digging of holes underneath the current foundations. Digging will be in a sequence instructed by the structural engineer and will be followed by filling these with concrete, accompanied by steel reinforcements if the engineer’s specifications demand so. This work is done by hand where there will be no need for big excavation equipment, provided the project specifics demands.
